I know in this economic climate that people are looking to save wherever they can, but there is a real need in Bow for repair of the community track facility.
The track is used not only for track and field but also for B.E.S.T. classes, community walkers and joggers, summer community programs, and numerous Bow athletes of other Bow High teams. There are currently over 100 students signed up for the 2009 Bow High Track and Field Season. Track meets and occasional practices are also held here for 80 or more athletes of the Bow Middle School Track and Field program. What would they be doing without track?
There are chunks of track that have detached, and continue to loosen, in critical areas including the starting line. There is a 1 foot deep hole in the center of the long jump runway and the high jump surface is unusable in the intended take off area. After having 7 individual high jump State Champions here at Bow it would be a shame to have no high jumpers in the coming years.
The predicted time frame for use of the original surfacing project has passed, so the time has come for resurfacing. A community use track in disrepair could be hazardous and lead to injury, which may prove more expensive in the long run.
Bow Track and Field has produced more than a dozen collegiate athletes, multiple State Championships, National Qualifiers, and NH State Records. There are currently 5 Bow Track and Field Alumni who are competing at the NCAA Division I level. That success is a direct result of the student/athletes’ hard work and the many years of community support. I hope you will continue your generous support of this multi-use and much used facility.
